During the Bethesda E3 2016 press conference, it was announced that both Doom and Fallout 4 would be heading to VR, and I managed to get my hands on the latter.

The demo starts out at a Red Rocket, and it let me play around with the controls for a little bit. There were items but I couldn’t interact with anything. I shot some bottles, then shot at the dog, who didn’t seem to mind. Since the HTC Vive doesn’t have an analog stick, I had to use my left arm to select a place I wanted to teleport to.

Personally, I’m not a fan of the HTC Vive just because I don’t see this as a feature many games will utilize well, but we’ll have to wait and see.

After a few minutes of playing around with the controls, the dog ran off. It took me a couple seconds to find him, but he was attacking some raiders. The ability to teleport anywhere made it really easy to flank them. I’m not sure how well this will work in the full game, but it seems too easy. The demo ended after I killed all the raiders.

Fallout 4 VR was pretty cool, but my biggest concern is that this isn’t a full AAA game and just a glorified tech demo. I understand what I played is a really early build, because the game doesn’t release until Fall 2017, but I’m not sure if the Vive is meant for full blown games.
