E3 2016: Resident Evil 7 Biohazard PlayStation VR Gameplay & Impressions

You have not experienced horror until you’ve experienced through YOUR OWN EYES! I got a chance to get my hands on the Resident Evil 7 VR demo during E3 2016, and I must say, it is definitely a creepy, yet interesting experience. Capcom has nailed the atmospheric feeling of Resident Evil 7, and the PlayStation VR only enhances the experience even more. The demo consist of the player roaming through the creaky hallways of an abandoned farm house on a simple mission to escape. Through out the demo, the player will learn about the catastrophe that took place before his unforeseen arrival. Check out my full PlayStation VR experience below. Enjoy:

So far, I like the approach that Capcom has taken with the series. They finally understand that the hardcore fans of the franchise truly want horror back – not a multitude of action cut-scenes that were demonstrated in the previous installments. Even though the full game is far from releasing and we’ve barely seen the surface of Resident Evil 7 – my only concern is the camera angle. I get it, Capcom is cashing in on the P.T. & Outlast hype. However, I’m just not sure if the franchise can make a full transition from third person-over the shoulder camera view, to first person view the entire game. There have been titles in the franchise that have dedicated themselves to this camera view, but they are very far and in between.

I’ve also gotten a chance to demo Resident Evil 7 from my own PlayStation 4 console. The experience is very similar, but in my opinion, if players want the full horrifying experience of the next Resident Evil installment, PlayStation VR is the way to go. The immersion is there. Players will actually feel like they’re dealing with the frightening events in their living room. Other than that, I can’t wait to hear more information about Resident Evil 7. So far, I’m impressed! Capcom seems to be moving in the right direction. Hopefully they can bring this project full circle with a horrifying, yet fulfilling experience that fans have been waiting for.

Resident Evil 7 is set to release during the first quarter of 2017 on January 24th. Stay tuned here with Junkie Monkeys for more upcoming news regarding the franchise! Cheers!
