Invader Zim Returns in a New Comic-Book Series

Invader Zim

It’s been years since Invader Zim was cancelled on Nickelodeon, and the show’s fanbase has increased dramatically since then. Now it seems that the beloved series will be returning in the form of a new comic-book series, all thanks to a partnership between Nickelodeon and the series creator, Jhonen Vasquez.

I can’t speak for everyone on this site, but Invader Zim is without a doubt my favorite cartoon series of all time. So, you can probably tell how heartbroken I was when I found out that the series was cancelled. That didn’t stop me from buying all the seasons on DVD and buying merchandise relating to the show whenever possible. To this day, Invader Zim’s fan base continues to grow larger than when the series originally aired on Nick. With all this said, Oni Press, the publishers for a new Invader Zim comic-book series have brightened fans days with the brand new announcement.

Thanks to a new partnership between Nick and Jhonen Vasquez, fans of Invader Zim will finally be able to immerse themselves in the series yet again. In a recent quote provided by Oni Press, Jhonen Vasquez has stated the following:

I’m always confused when people say how much they miss Invader Zim because the show never stopped running in my head, and then I remember everyone else isn’t in my head. I try to imagine the world for all those people who don’t know what Zim’s been up to since the show went off the air and it makes me shudder. How can people live that way? Hopefully this comic helps make the world a better place.

Johnny The Homicidal Maniac

This isn’t Jhonen Vasquez’s first dive into a comic-book series, as some of you may remember his seven issue series of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. While there isn’t a set creative team for the new Invader Zim comic-book series, it has been said that Aaaron Alexovich, Eric Trueheart, and Ricki Simmons (Gir himself) are all said to be involved alongside Jhonen Vasquez on the project. The first issue is set to release on July 1st, so be on your toes.
